Ordinary Magic have a wealth of professional knowledge available to schools and teaching professionals through tailor-made training and workshop opportunities.
Loss and Grief
Statistically, one child in every classroom has faced a significant close family bereavement. Understanding grief and knowing how to support children , their families and those that will inevitably be affected during these difficult times is key.We offer specialist training, advice and ongoing support for schools and third sector organisations.
Trauma through crime and violence
Trauma can come in all shapes and sizes and there is no ‘one size fits all’ scenario. From a home burglar to a theft of a bike, violence at home involving the child or a loved one or even the threat of violence can shatter a child’s perception of the world around them. If children no longer feel safe, their behaviour at home and at school can be disrupted (and potentially, this could lead to long-term mental health and wellbeing challenges). As a result of our work with children who have experienced trauma, we now offer specialist training in order to share our knowledge and the science behind what is happening to the child to enable professionals to support each child positively at this crucial time.
A sense of self – helping children build resilience and achieve autonomy
What is resilience? Using practical tools, we help attendees understand what resilience is and the psychological studies that underpin it. We explore ways to help children develop literacy and demonstrate how understanding a child’s sense of self can help them to engage in positive self-talk.
